Back to the Bush

Back to the Bush.... (Pictures from the bush in South Africa). In July and August 2017 we visited the northeastern part of South Africa. Firtst to Royal Natal National Park, north of the Drakensberg Mountains along the border with Leshoto...

We stayed in Witsieshoek on 2000 meter. Night temperatures dropped down to - 11 Celsius. In daytime we admired the beautiful mountain scenery and the presence of the very rare Bearded Vulture.

Then we moved to the almost oldest national park in the world: Hluhluwe-Umfolozi NP. We stayed there for 2 days and did all the gamedrives by ourselves with the rental car. A highlight of the park is the good number of Rhino's you can find there, specially the White Rhino.

A new area for us, was our next destination: Tembe Elephant Park, a nature reserve tucked away just under the border with Mozambique. This reserve is community managed and runned. We stayed in fantastic safari tents, spacious and very comfortable, the food was excellent and the people were great. So was the game viewing!

Not far from this lovely place is another Tembe runned lodge: Tembe Beach, at Kosi Bay. The Kosi River flows through 4 lakes, makes an estuary before it comes out in the Indian Ocean, just south of the border with Mozambique.

Our next stop is the famous Kruger National Park. We stayed in 4 different restcamps: Crocodile Bridge, Satara, Skukuza and Berg en Dal.

After Kruger NP we had 3 nights in Notten's Bush Camp, a private Game Reserve in Sabi Sands Nature Reserve. Fantastic accommodation, great food, superb gamedrives, the highlight of the trip as far as I am concerned (in terms of quality of accommodation and game viewing).
